President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday in Abuja held bilateral talks with some leaders of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). NAN reports that the meetings were held on the sideline of the ongoing 56th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. Buhari met President Alassane Quattara of Cote d’Ivoire, Patrick Talon of Benin Republic, Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, George Weah of Liberia and Rock Marc Kabore of Burkina Faso. The 56th session of the ECOWAS is expected to consider, among other sub-regional and continental issues, the recommendations on the proposed single currency regime for the sub-region. ECOWAS leaders had agreed on a single currency for the sub-region 30 years back, to boost cross-border trade and economic development. They had formally agreed to name the common currency “Eco”. Donald Trump The White House has hit back at lawmakers after President Donald Trump was impeached, slamming the “illegitimate articles of impeachment” and voicing confidence the president would be acquitted in the Senate. “Democrats have chosen to proceed on this partisan basis in spite of the fact that the President did absolutely nothing wrong,” spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement, calling the votes in the House of Representatives an “unconstitutional travesty”. Grisham said that there were no fact witnesses in the hearing and alleged bias by the Democrats. “The President is confident the Senate will restore regular order, fairness, and due process, all of which were ignored in the House proceedings. ”He is prepared for the next steps and confident that he will be fully exonerated,” the statement said, referring to the upcoming trial in the upper chamber, dpa/NAN reported.

The Senate on Wednesday passed six bills seeking to establish and give legal backing to Federal Universities and Polytechnics across several States of the Federation. The upper chamber also passed an amendment bill on the Federal Polytechnic Daura Act. The bills passed by the Senate seek to establish the Federal University of Gashua; Federal Polytechnic, Orogun; Federal College of Education, Illo; Federal University of Education, Kontagora; Federal Polytechnic, Daura; Modibo Adama University of Technology, and Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Funtua. The passage of the seven bills was sequel to the consideration of the reports of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND chaired by Senator Babba Kaita Ahmad (APC, Katsina North).
